Composing Info
With the new releases of instruments and the changes that Mabinogi has gone through in the way of music, I have found that the wiki is a little less helpful. Since I cannot add to their store of knowledge directly, I'm putting it here. Granted, some of this can be found on the wiki, but most of the new info is from forum posts and personal experimentation. Instruments with identical ranges are grouped. I have not looked for the bird ranges, but they are a bit too shrill for practical use.
Octave Ranges by Instrument:
Lute/Mandolin/Ukulele: O1 E thru O7 E - 3 voice
Chalumeau: O2 C thru O4 B - 3 voice
Flute/Roncadora: O4 C thru O6 B - 3 voice
Whistle: O5 C thru O7 E - 3 voice
Tuba: O1 C thru O4 B - 3 voice
Lyre: O1 C thru O6 E - 3 voice
Hand Chimes (xylophone): O1 C thru O6 E - 1 voice (melody line only)
Cello: O1 C thru O3 A - 3 voice (soft)
Violin: O1 G thru O4 B - 3 voice (soft)
Piano: O1 C thru O7 C - 3 voice
Electric Guitar: Octave 0 E thru O4 D+(un-distorted) - O4 E thru O8 D+ (distorted) - 3 voice * this is the one instrument that the wiki excels at explaining.
Drums/Cymbals/music bottles: 1-note which varies by object (a.k.a no range) - 1 voice (melody line only)
Now the voice and choir types are not technically instruments, but seeing that they have their own line on scrolls now I feel that the basic ranges should be here too. I strongly advise using the general song ranges here for vocal parts so the music can be as usable as possible (avoiding gender limitations as well).
General Vocal Range: O1 E+ thru O4 A - 1 voice ("Song" line only)
General Choir Range: O1 G thru O3 A+ - 1 voice ("Song" line only)
The male and female chorus only differ in a couple notes, so the above range is probably the best guide. I suspect they got the male and female vocal ranges reversed as the male is 4 notes higher than the high in the guide and the female is 4 notes lower than the low end.
Happy Composing.
